Stories like this are why I won't ride in the dark. No matter how many lights you put on your bike, there will always be an idiot driver drunk/texting/changing the radio.
Unfortunately, commuting requires that I ride in the dark except during the summer months. Good lights and better route selection make me comfortable doing this. There will be distracted idiots in broad daylight too, so be careful.
