The Marathons were designed with that in mind. I do weekend tours for the time being due to time constraints, so I only carry about 30 to 35 pounds of gear on rear, so I went for the Panaracer Pasela TG, a very highly rated tire, cheaper then those other tires in that long list and has better flat protection; but it won't last the miles the Marathon will nor be as tough, but it's good enough for what I use them for. I did add the Panaracer Flat-Away flat protection strip to the rear tire because the rear is where most flats occur and I don't want a flat and have to be bothered with removing the panniers...call me lazy!
