In don't find cycling to be that expensive once you buy the bike and some clothes. I patch tubes, but that's mostly me not wanting to throw away something so easily fixable. The other consumables don't really add up to much, especially if you commute by bike and consider how it compares to oil, gas, insurance, registration and everything you spend on your car.
