One cap off, although pretty mangled. I'll sand and spray it - and call it good. The other cap is staying on.

Now, how do I pressure some grease into the bearings from the capped side? I've never done this...always taking things completely apart to refresh/rebuild. But, with the mention of a "tricky bearing pre-load adjustment" (which I know nothing about), I'll probably try to force grease through the pedal.

Any hints or tricks? What if I duct-taped a connection between the pedal end and the tip of a grease gun, and used some boat-trailer bearing silicone grease? Feel free to tell me that I'm smoking too much, with a whacked idea like that!
