Great posts, thanks for the input. I may try to bust one apart, it can't be much different than properly setting up older axles.

Yes, looking at these pedals I can see this may happen. Hard to tell until they are on an operational bike, but with the funny angles and protrusions they may be awkward or uncomfortable with the normal shoes I wear.
