I guess at least in the minds of the elderly couple that chewed me out last weekend I'm a menace and a bad parent.
Took my 8 y.o. daughter in a 20 or so mile ride down the mup nearby. As is our custom we street ride to the trail and back. So coming back we need to cut through the middle of the suburb next to ours, which is usually sleepy on Saturdays. Turns out they were having some art fest and the town was mobbed. Nevertheless, fearless daughter and I take the lane and pull into the intersection to go left when traffic allows and get out of there. After making the left, the old folks which were behind us beeping their horn roll down the window and crab that this is too dangerous for a kid (even though she's a very good rider and with her dad) and we shouldn't be there- well if I knew this fest was going on we wouldn't have been there- but there was no convincing them of my good intentions so I said I'm sorry you think so but we have a right to be on the road too. They agreed I did but crabbed nontheless. Too bad my teleporter was on the fritz.
The daughter thought it was pretty funny.
In any event it was a good experience as the traffic while heavy was very slow and she handled herself admirably- good lane position, signaling etc. Didn't appear too risky to me (at least with her).
