But my boyfriend has a truck as his only vehicle, and it actually makes sense. His daily driver is his bike - the truck only comes out when we need to haul loads or go into the mountains, and for those uses it makes sense.
It's the people that think they need a truck to go to the grocery store, or because they don't "feel safe on the road in a small car" that make me cringe.
I was basing my observation on people that work places like IBM, the parking lots there are full of fancy trucks driven by software engineers. I have a buddy that works for GE Aircraft engines, like me he owns a truck that is used on his farm as well as for hunting and other heavy hauling. For getting back and forth to work he drives a Toyota Tercel.
When I drive into an urban shopping center and there are more large trucks and SUV's than smaller cars it really makes you wonder...
