fwiw I prefer to wear my 'bike' shades with everyday clothes, rather than wear my ray bans while riding

- the bike shades (I have a pair of Smiths that just broke after about 5 years of use) just plain work better. Better & more comfortable fit, easier on the eyes in sunlight, added peripheral coverage, etc etc. I will say they look a bit dorky with a suit so I like also having the trad ray ban types, but for more casual clothes, I couldn't care less about the bug-eye look.

I just sent my Smiths back for repair this morning and am wondering whether I'd be better off riding with my Ray Bans or sans shades altogether this weekend. My biggest beef with the Rays is that wind gets channeled into the spaces around the frames/lenses, forcing a jet stream of air, soot and bugs into my eyes.....not good. They also slip down my nose while sitting still, so I imagine they'd fall off within the first mile or two.

Funnily enough the best pair of riding glasses I ever had was a pair of goofy $5 shades in those awful de la soul in living color late 80s early 90s neon colors. Blocked the wind very well and were super comfy. Don't forget lenses were generally bigger back then....not 1970s Charles Nelson Reilly big - but bigger than the metrosexual stuff one has to choose from these days......definitely better for protecting your eyes imho....

They said "100% UV protection" when I bought them but god knows what they really provided, orhow my eyes survived.....I used those on the bike and as goggles on my motorcycle for at least three or four years before they died........I average about two years tops for most ray bans. Go figure.
