Bicycles are statistically safer than cars. For crying out loud, there are seats for toddlers to ride on with a bike. These devices are thought to be safe and I have yet to see any horror stories about them. If your dog is calm enough to ride in a basket, by all means go for it. I bet he/she will have a blast once they figure out what is going on. Don't listen to the no-fun people.
