I see that you're going to try the gators, but I would like to chime in with a recommendation for Panaracer Ribmos.
I am a big fan of Panaracer tires in general... have had the Ribmos on one of my "fast" bikes since spring, and haven't had a flat, and have been very happy with handling over all types of terrain. Several hundred miles on the set, maybe 7-800 miles. Price was quite good, as well.
