I've ridden past them when they are grazing along the road in the ditch. I surprise them, they freak out, they surprise me, and so far I am so happy they went the other direction!

I have retired from riding fast downhill in the dark on the way to work. Too many deer. It isn't worth the 45 seconds it saves me on the way in to work.
