I think you can "get it" and still not want to buy into it. I "get" why someone would want to spend as much or more than a car on a bike, but I'd never do it. Despite the fact that my bikes are my only means of transport.

I define "good" as somewhere in the middle of the spectrum. Not too expensive, but not too cheap. Puts me at about $600-$1500 depending on how rich I feel at the time. I know I would never buy a top of the line all carbon/all titanium bike because I simply don't see that the returns on the extra cash warrant the expense. That and my bikes look cheap in the rack next to them so they are less likely to be stolen....
