Oh, I definitely don't think things are easier (I grew up reading too many Little House on the Prairie type books for that!) but I just wish people wouldn't assume that things are just like they were when THEY were in their 20s. Different possessions and different skills are needed to hack it in the world today. And especially I wish they wouldn't give us Kobyashi Maru-type scenarios, where nothing we do will make them happy.

In general, I've found people really are doing the best they can with the options they have, and hate it when others offer judgy, unhelpful "advice" (which is usually a not-so-subtle way to pump themselves up) that they weren't asked for.
