Caveat: personal opinion follows, and I'm not a roadie.

Apex is better compared to 105 than Tiagra, which isn't on Apex's level. The Double Taps' theoretical advantage is that you only move one lever, one direction, for both up- and down-shifts. A short distance for an upshift, and a longer one for a downshift. Mutiple-gear downshifts with one push are possible. I have the flat bar version on my new build, and I love it.
