good point on the shift range of the barcons - gosh, that'd be tragic if i had to use something else... of course downtube is another option that's not so bad... still wondering about the freewheel availability (nos, of course) for 135mm hubs, tho...
as for the cable stops, this does seem to be a hard to find item... i'll need the stops that attach to the braze-on shifter mounts on the downtube .. anybody have ideas on where they may be found?
