While I ride exclusively "clipped in", I'm going to offer a contrary view. Clipless pedals won't make much difference to you at this point. It sounds like you're doing well and riding regularly. Keep it up!
Maybe a re-evaluation of your diet and nutrition would be most beneficial. Perhaps some appointments with a nutritionist? Working on good "fuel foods", eliminating unnecessary/unhealthy calories by substituting foods that will help your body change the way that you'd like, and getting your nuritition cycles better matched to the rhythm of your day - these might have higher payoff.
As another forum member wrote, keep riding through the winter. Find a way to add other forms of inside exercise to assist you. Core work. Yoga. Stretching. High rep, low weight resistance exercises for your major muscle groups... By next year, you'll feel so much better and stronger, and healthier...
Then we can chat about clipless pedals again. Hang in there and stay positive. You can do this! PG
