I'm afraid the only way to really get the right bike and right fit is to have someone experienced go shopping with you for an entire weekend.
I had to do that like a month ago since my dad is a n00b. Its actually kind of enjoyable being able to spend an entire weekend riding different bikes, and geeking out talking to the people at my local shops.
