I just got the Edge 500 yesterday myself and today was the first ride. The Edge 500 replaces the Forerunner 305 that was not capable of recording long rides fully as it was really for running tho it had cycling capabilities...probably geared for Tri-Athlete usage....

What problems did you have with the forerunner? I've done metric century's without any problem. Not really long distance for most though. I think it's a pretty great computer especially paired with cadence and HR. Simple and does everything I need it to.
