acquired this bike today. seemed like a great candidate for a refurb or SS conversion. it has Diacompe levers, brake cable clamps on the top tube with Campagnolo logos on them, and the 44/52 chainrings have "made in France" printed on them. it also has Mavic tubular wheels on it, but the wheels are beyond hope.
the snag for me is the rear end. the dropouts are spaced at 114mm, which it seems is a common size for old 5-speed hubs. would it be better to put a 110mm bmx hub in there or spread it to take a 120mm track hub?
also, the frame top tube and seat tube measure about 56cm. how are older frames like this sized? I usually ride a 54cm frame, and the standover on this seems too high, but the length is no so bad.
