What is beyond hope? are the rims damaged? Is it simply a matter of truing? Because for a single speed conversion the easiest thing is just keep the hub and replace the freewheel with a bmx single speed freewheel. If it is french you might have trouble finding the right puller, but it looks modern enough and any LBS could probably remove it for you.
