Yet another local kid killed

We've had a rash of kids on bikes being killed here in Upstate NY. This time it was a 14-year-old boy on his way to school:

I've ridden in that area before, and looked at Google Maps Street View to make sure I remembered it right. It's flat as a pancake, the road has a good shoulder, and the sightlines are fine. And yet on this bright sunny morning, the driver "Didn't see him".

And not to jump to any conclusions prematurely, this was a Mennonite kid. In all of my riding, I have never, ever seen one of them who wasn't pedaling a transport bike slowly and way over on the shoulder. Not once.
