Bikes: '96 Litespeed Catalyst, '05 Litespeed Firenze, '06 Litespeed Tuscany, '20 Surly Midnight Special, All are 3x10. It is hilly around here!

Going from an 18 to a 14 tooth cog would be the wrong way. If you leave the hub in 3rd gear it will be geared higher than in second. Reducing the cog size will make that situation worse. If you leave it in third gear go to a 24 T cog to give the same gear ratio as the 18T does in second gear.
