Since you spent the money to get the bike nicely repainted and your going for a nice ss/fg asthetic, have you considered going the whole way and buying a proper set of SS/FG alloy wheels for the bike. If your not going to do this I would say just properly fix the 3 speed setup that is on the bike. Also before you spend a lot of time and money you should check with your GF and see what she want's in a bike after all it is going to be her bike and not your project.
