Super-effective bubba avoidance technique!
. . . I discovered one.
I was getting geared up for my road ride today and realized my last clean jersey was my Fox Racing xc mtb jersey. So I wore it.
For 35 miles, I noticed that pickup trucks regularly gave me the entire lane and/or slowed significantly when passing me. This is not typical for rural MI. I can only assume this newfound respect stemmed from (a) them embracing me as one of their own, or (b) confusion as to how I was pedaling a dirtbike.
The downside of this experiment was that I experienced a much higher than average rate of being yelled at by black people coming through town. Seriously. I'm guessing they also thought I was a redneck.
I plan on continuing this highly unscientific experiment next week.
