Many thanks for that. I have not yet tried the Trek FX, but I tried the shift and the Verve. Perhaps I should give the FX a try as well.

A hybrid bike can offer a range of different positions with just a change in stem length and angle. Like you and others, I have my share of age-related spinal discomforts and I found the perfect compromise in the Specialized Sirrus. My particular model, the Limited, has many qualities of a road bike (light weight, skinny tires, good componentry) and still offers a position that is more upright than a road bike, but not the 90 degree position of most commuter bikes. The adjustments to stem length and angle are inexpensive and quite expansive, so perhaps the Trek FX line that you have looked at could be a viable option that offers the best of both worlds.
