My set up differs from the two pictured above. On my set up, the cable end goes into a hollow barrel about 1 1/2" long. Then a cable crimp goes on the end of the cable to prevent the cable from being pulled through the barrel. The cable end attachments pictured above are slightly different. It appears that the cable is pinched in position. I also just noticed that this newer style end is included in the purchase of a new cable. All should work out
