Yesterday's commute home was via an even longer route (for fitness sake, 27km). Moderately hilly for the beginning, down a long hill, flat across the bottom then up the same ridge via another road and then moderately hill for the rest. When I went on MapMyRide, I checked out the steepness of the uphill ride to discover that it qualifies as a Cat 5 climb. I've made it up both times I've ridden it but at about an average rate of 12-13kph, pretty slow but I complete it. Yesterday, I felt the beginning of a calf cramp at the bottom of the hill so I stopped and stretched it out before riding up and then at the top, it came back so I stretched it out again and for the remaining 10km, it was fine.
This morning started misty, sometimes almost foggy on parts of the commute, and 3C. I found a pair of wool ski socks and wore them and although my feet were better than yesterday, I think that blocking the mesh of my shoes may provide the greatest protection against the cold. I don't want duct or other tape glue on my shoes so I'll try to find some other means of blocking the vents. I still can't find my home made toe covers, they must be in the house somewhere because I saw them this summer, I'll look for them over the weekend.
Have a great day commuters!!
