It's not about going faster or making pedalling significantly easier ... it's about seeing stuff, liking it, and getting it.
For example, I've got my eye on a blue Brooks B17. Why? Because I like Brooks saddles and blue is my favourite colour ... and I think it would look really good on my blue touring bicycle. Pretty.
But it's not going to make me go faster or make me any more comfortable than a plain ordinary black B17.
