As above... I ride the NYC streets and you have to ride like a car, assuming a full lane, ride fast, signal fast, get out the way fast & let cars pass you when you let them (if it's not safe for them to pass me, they can horn as much as they want, I ain't moving)...

Riding like that at least saves me from sudden encounters with parked cars opening doors. So far so good, knock on wood...

PS: BTW, whoever invented the cyclist signaling for turning right (the bend left hand upwards) is an idiot... Sorry but he/she is!!! Don't use it. Just signal with your right hand... Most of the drivers have no idea what it is and what you are trying to do and it only causes confusion... If you cannot use left hand for signaling left turns and right for right, you shouldn't be riding on roads with traffic, yet... I'm serious...
