what IS this bike?
Hey, I'm glad you guys like my bike!

Actually, the story is as follows. While I was busy getting acquainted with old road bikes I was also keeping an eye out for a nice folder to use in The Hague, where I work and often need to travel between offices. I found I liked the idea of a folding bike, but not what was generally being offered: low quality, tiny wheels, no tech to speak of. In summary: bikes designed for people who have no interest in bikes other than as a means of basic transport. And 'pre-owned' they cost about twice as much as a nice 10-speed!

So when I came across a folding MTB in as-new condition at a reasonable price I bought it:

The bike turned out to be a prototype from the Czech Republic that hadn't made it into production. Parts used were cheap, and I soon found out I didn't like the ride one bit, with the fat nobbly tires an' all. So what to do? What I really wanted was a foldable road bike. I had also just picked up an as-new 14-speed Peugeot Optimum, so I swapped frames, kept the flat bar to help keep me out of the downtown tram rails, added some cheap but nice Acera brifters, et voilá: a folding road bike.
