I tape two white thickish posterboards (discarded from the workplace daily/monthly information posters) side-by-side onto my workspace floor, using duct tape. I replace them seasonally. This makes about a 5.5' wide by 4' deep base onto which I put my portable stand. Granted, it's a painted cement floor in the unfinished utility portion of my basement.
