I've had a couple of Jandd seat bags for my road and mtbs for 15+ years and they have been awesome for my purposes. The seat clamps have begun to wear some holes thru the material, but when I replace them I won't hesitate to get Jandd again.

Like you, for my needs the common bag offerings are either too small or silly large. The Jandds that I own seem to be just the right size for what I carry: tube, multi tool, tire levers, TipTop patch kit, a patch kit box with extra chain links and pins. There's still a bit more room for keys, cash, id, etc.. I'm guessing that we have similar needs for volume to carry.

I believe the bags I have are the Mini Mountain Wedge: http://www.jandd.com/detail.asp?PRODUCT_ID=FMMW

Check out the Jandd website and you can compare the actual dimensions of the bags to see which would best suit your needs. It appears that you can order direct from them, too.

One thing I really like about these bags is the mounting strap with which you can compress the bag to avoid loose/rattling contents or the bag dangling/moving below the seat. Those things would bug the crap outta me.

Re the Wedge 1, make sure it doesn't fall into the 'too large' category for you. It would indeed be way too big for me by virtue of the 5" height
