My advice is do more skidding. Do it for fun when you don't have to and when it's safe to do so. Skidding is a bad way to stop quickly, but having lots of practice feeling the point at which a skid starts and what is does during cornering makes you better able to approach the skid point but not reach it the next time you need to. This is key to optimal stopping. Skid for fun! Also, as your skills improve, do stoppies. This is great practice to avoid endo during emergency stops. When you're really good, you can even shift your weight back and do extended front wheel skids for a couple of seconds (advanced trick).
