I was delighted to shed my wool garments and have no desire to go back since the synthetics that I was happy to switch to then have only gotten better while sheep, I presume, remain the same.
The wool has gotten better. Not the sheep, but how wool is carded, spun and woven into fabrics has improved. That said, i have had to reinforce the pocket stitching in several of my wool jerseys.
I still have a set of wool cycling shorts with leather chamois. Old wool is nothing like new wool.
I wear a wool jersey when touring, and wool cycling shorts or knickers (Ibex) and use wool socks.
