Probably, but I've seen it both ways and assume it's a reference to a name because I've often seen the female equivalent described with "Jill" or "jill". That, and I'm too lazy to change it.
Second "jack" is not a reference to a name, that is the entire point of the joke. Anyway doesn't matter.
