Doubt that these hooks hurt the bike. The same might not be true for the back of short, weak or disabled cyclists that have to lift the bike over their head to that awkward position without help; same applies to roof racks on cars. This is one application where light bikes
are a big advantage over heavy accessory laden bikes.
