Get a less tight headband. I can't think of a reason why one wouldn't work for you. I have a couple thin fleece ones that I use until it gets into the lower 20s. Below that I switch to using a thin stretchy skull cap and might supplement it with a buff or neck gaiter. Balaklavas get reserved for really cold weather.
