3 reasons ebay could be right:

1. In order to keep TRS status, you need to offer free shipping, otherwise, just a couple of nitwits will cost you that TRS status. Ask me how I know.

2. TRS status = 20% off ebay final value fees, and 30% off most shipping rates. If you sell a lot on ebay, those add up.

3. Buyers really like free shipping.

I have gotten dinged on charging too much on shipping, even though I used the ebay postage calculator, and even though the actual shipping cost as much or more than what the buyer paid. It does not matter. Some buyers are idiots, and in my case, it just takes three of them in six months, and the TRS status is gone. So I now offer free shipping on most of what I sell (as I wait another month before I get my TRS status back).

Please don't confuse ebay "asking" prices with "selling" prices. Many sellers never get their ask price. some are far from it. Value is determined once an item actually SELLS. Its easy enough to check SOLD prices.
