I Rode Over to Visit Heinz Yesterday

On Fathers Day 2009 Heinz, who I had never met, was riding his bike on a wonderful Sunday morning when he was rear-ended by a white sedan and killed. In the 3+ years since the incident they have never found the murderer. In 2010 my wife and I were driving down the street and saw the Ghost Bikes memorial that was placed at the site. In the months since we saw the memorial, I've ridden my bike over to "see him" occasionally, and to give a little honor to a man I never met. Yesterday I took an afternoon ride to stand next to his Ghost Bike and reflect a bit. It makes me want to ride more.

Ghost Bike memorials are everywhere across the country and I believe they have a website detailing each incidence of highway murder.

Edit: BTW, this was my 1000th post at BF. I saved it to honor Heinz and the other people that paid the price.
