Green light for cyclists in the rain

Infrastructure in Holland is pretty well adapted to cyclists; there is always room for improvement though. Loosely translated:

¨The city of Groningen (Netherlands) will accommodate cyclists with less red lights when it rains. In the traffic lights, rain sensors are placed. If it rains or snows, cyclists will get more green lights.

A trial with the sensors was a success. The sensors led to many positive responses from cyclists and other road users. There was no longer waiting time for the other traffic due to the sensors.

In the future, the municipality will place sensors in all traffic lights that are replaced.¨
