Your tire manufacturer knows your tire isn't going to last 17, 000 miles. Do you expect them to pay for your riding habits too?
Abused? He previously posted that he just rode 55 miles without shifting. If he can do that, I'd say its a safe bet his shifters aren't "abused". Aside from that, your comparisons are apples and oranges. You can't measure the lifespan of a shifter in miles like you do an engine or a set of tires.
