I estimate the failure rate of these tubes to be over 50%, maybe higher and approaching 100% if they last long enough first. IME rain is definitely a factor, but if everyone has one or two of these failures, or the vast bulk of riders simply pay a shop to replace the tube with no investigation, each victims scratches it up to bad luck.

But there has been lots of discussion of the problem among some in the industry. Unfortunately, it doesn't generate enough complaints or lost business to motivate the major buyers to insist on a different valve, or addressing it otherwise.

My stock of tubes is about 2 years old, and I'm still working my way through them at the rate of one every few months. But I've called a number of dealer friends, and it seems that current production is unchanged.
