Really? That's odd.
There are tons of old bikes in New York City. I see them locked up outside and being ridden in the streets. I say "old" instead of "classic" or "vintage" because I get the feeling that many of the owners don't ride these bikes out of sentimentality but out of practicality. The bikes have lasted a long time and will continue to serve, so there's no need to replace them.
