I think those who have lost weight must be reducing their calorie intake greatly.
Its about the balance not the amount. If you cycle enough - 400km a week does it for me. I eat more than I used to and STILL lose weight. I never changed my diet. Now if you are only commuting then yes, you will need to reduce your calorie intake as well.
