Way back, the reason I continued to ride a leather hairnet was that the Bell V-1 Pro was so heavy and hot.
Now almost all are light and tolerable and much safer.

I go with what fits, Giro's don't fit my noggin well w/o lots of added pads. So, go with what fits best, is tolerable cooling wise and only ride them for 2-3 years. Expanded polystyrene does not age gracefully in my opinion.
My noggin is worth the continuing cost.

And I rinse my helmet out pretty frequently including the straps. Sometimes after every ride, after any long ride is worthwhile.
