How to replace the B-Axle in a Shimano M972 (or M772) rear derailleur?

I have a M972 with a slightly bent B-Axle so I went and bought a replacement (part "Y-5WJ 98130").

Trying to remove the old B-Axle from the derailleur has me scratching my thinning hair. There is no visible retainer clip or other apparent reason for the B-Axle not to pop right out. I tried coaxing it by prying with a small thin screwdriver, but to no avail.

Assistance would be appreciated. Thanks.

For ref, it is item #1 in the tecdoc:
