Excellent example of how C&V and modern riders sometimes experience the same issues with compatibility:

My bud was riding a '93 Trek 2000 Aluminum frame, upgraded to 9-sp DA with DT shifting, hand-built 9-sp DA/Aerohead wheels. It was 60cm, and fit him well, with 180mm Record cranks.

By 2004 or 2005, he began to think in terms of CF, and settled on the well-reviewed RT-700. However, the "normal" fit thinking was moving towards "as small as you can get" for aero, weight, and stiffness. He drank that in and ended up on the 56cm Kestrel. We swapped everything over, but the 9-sp DT shifters had to give way to STI's (no braze-ons). I ended up selling the Trek frameset, shifters, bars, and stem to a C&V guy.

By 2011, his lower back pain dampened his riding and his enthusiasm. The Tarmac was taking over the Madone's spot locally, so he did his research, and went back "big," this time to a 61cm SL4. The 9-sp swap was OK, but the BB30 bottom bracket necessitated 180mm DA7900 cranks. He liked it, then bent an Aerohead. The downtime ticked him off, so he bought another SL4 with DA7900 and C24 wheels.

While I was trying to sell the 56cm Kestrel, I built it, rode it to some Saturday rides, and well, that was pretty much that; it stays, in some form or another, probably Campy.

While he was riding the C24's, he thought he noticed they didn't roll as well as the 7700/Aeroheads. BF member DRietz was consulted, recommending a higher spoke count, 7900 hubs, and A23 rims. He was absolutely dead on, so when the 9-sp Tarmac returned to service, the 10-sp wheels were built and swapped in.

While I was trying to sell the C24's, your white Ironman with the black wheels presented itself, and then calamarichris presented his white beauties with the C24's. He was unabashedly "pro" on the C24, and told me I'd "get over" the price (even used). He was right, I'm a fan.

My bud is very content. He's gone back to cussing the rainy days, strapping on his double-strapped Record toe clip pedals, and even started wearing a helmet.
