Wrong assumption about this thread, George. Back in '04 when it was started (original post below) I think the intent was new bikes. Inflation considered, I don't think 700 to 1,000 is that big a jump, considering it's been 8 years.
I didn't see anything in the OP that indicated it was for New Bikes exclusively.

However in my earlier post I showed two or three new bikes that still fit the Under $700.00 price. It also is not restricted to multi-speed bikes IMHO. With today's economy, the lower cost options make even more sense. Back in O4, our economy was doing a lot better than it is today, gas was cheaper etc.
