Dips are better for overall strength than chest press, that's what I heard. So I start with dips now.

But in the big picture, don't neglect your back. I work my back much more than my chest now, because I focused on nothing but chest/shoulders in high school. My back seriously got neglected, and back strength really helps with a lot of things, including appearance.
