Bikes: Canfield Yelli Screamy, Pivot Mach5, Specialized Roubaix, '65 Hercules, '79 Schwinn Stingray Lil Chic, '68 Schwinn Stingray Fastback, '89 Specialized Allez Epic, '86 Battaglin World Champion
Those are two reputable companies that make good products and stand behind them. But, at that price point(and that category of bike), there are so many options. I think you guys should hit demos(or rent) and get her on as many bikes as you can. Maybe even consider getting a fit done by a local specialist.
Also, you could get a very solid ride at a lower price point. Might be something to consider, since she has not ridden a mtn bike in 20 yrs.
